Marsha Blackburn assumed office in the U.S. Senate for Tennessee on Jan. 3, 2019. Previously, Blackburn represented Tennessee's 7th District in the United States House of Representatives from 2003 to 2019.

Blackburn was born June 6, 1952, in Laurel, Mississippi. She graduated from Mississippi State University. In 1977, following college graduation, she helped found Williamson County Young Republicans, serving as a chairwoman of the Williamson County Republican Party from 1989 to 1991.

In 1998, Blackburn was elected into the Tennessee State Senate, representing Williamson County and part of Davidson County.
