Lauren Underwood assumed office as the U.S. representative for Illinois’ 14th District on Jan. 3, 2019.

Underwood was born and raised in Naperville, Illinois. She earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Michigan, and a Master of Science in nursing and Master of Public Health in public health nursing and health policy from Johns Hopkins University. She is the senior director of strategy and regulatory affairs at Next Level Health and an adjunct instructor for Georgetown University School of Nursing and Health Studies. She was previously appointed by President Barack Obama to serve as a senior advisor at the United States Department of Health and Human Services.
