Kathleen Alana "Katie" McGinty was the 2016 Democratic nominee for the United States Senate in Pennsylvania. She faced incumbent Senator Pat Toomey in the general election and lost.

McGinty was born May 11, 1963, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She has a B.S. in chemistry from Saint Joseph's University and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. After law school, McGinty clerked for a federal judge but did not take the bar exam or practice law.

She was a legislative assistant to Senator Al Gore of Tennessee. In 1993, she became a deputy assistant to President Bill Clinton, and chaired the White House Council on Environmental Quality from 1995 to 1998. She later became head of Pennsylvania's Department of Environmental Protection, serving in Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell's administration for over five years. From 2008 to 2015, McGinty held several positions with energy companies in the private sector, including working as a lobbyist.

McGinty was an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor of Pennsylvania in 2014. She served as chief of staff for the general election winner Tom Wolf from January 2015 to July 2015, resigning when she announced her bid for her candidacy for the U.S Senate.
