Abby Finkenauer served as the U.S. representative for Iowa's 1st Congressional District from 2019-2021. She and Cindy Axne, who also won election to the U.S. House on Nov. 6, 2018, were the first women to serve in the U.S. House from Iowa.

Finkenauer was born December 27, 1988, in Dubuque, Iowa. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Drake University. After college, she worked at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque with Jackson, Jones, Delaware, Clayton and Allamakee county affiliate foundations. She formerly served on the board of Greater Dubuque Development Corporation.

Finkenauer served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. After losing her seat in the U.S. House in 2020, Finkenauer ran for the U.S. Senate in 2022, losing in the primary. In November 2022, Finkenauer was appointed as the U.S. Special Envoy for Global Youth Issues in the U.S. State Department.
