Abby Finkenauer assumed office as the U.S. representative for Iowa's 1st Congressional District on Jan. 3, 2019. She and Cindy Axne, who also won election to the U.S. House on Nov. 6, 2018, are the first women to serve in the U.S. House from Iowa, and at 29 years old Finkenauer is the second-youngest woman elected to the U.S. Congress.
Finkenauer was born December 27, 1988, in Dubuque, Iowa. She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Drake University. After college, she worked at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque with Jackson, Jones, Delaware, Clayton and Allamakee county affiliate foundations. She formerly served on the board of Greater Dubuque Development Corporation.
Finkenauer served in the Iowa House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019.
