Biography
Yvette Herrell served as the U.S. representative for New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District from 2021-2023, losing her re-election bid in 2022. She ran again and lost in the 2024 election. Herrell was the first Republican Native woman elected to Congress and the first Cherokee woman.
Herrell was born in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and is a member of the Cherokee Nation. She earned a legal secretary diploma from ITT Technical Institute School of Business in Boise, Idaho. She has worked in the real estate industry since graduating.
Herrell served in the New Mexico House of Representatives from 2011-2019.
