Biography
Hillary Scholten is the current U.S. House Representative for Michigan’s 3rd District. She was elected in the 2022 midterm elections and has held the position as the first Democrat in 50 years and the first woman ever since 2023.
Scholten was born in west Michigan in 1982. She obtained her J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law in 2012. She clerked with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and the U.S. Department of Justice Board of Immigration. Scholten later went on to be an attorney advisor for the same Board. Scholten also worked as senior counsel with Miller Johnson, a Michigan Immigrant Rights Center staff attorney.
She first ran to represent Michigan’s 3rd District in 2020 but lost to Republican incumbent Peter Meijer.
