Delaine Eastin was a Democratic candidate for governor of California in 2018.

Eastin was born in San Diego on August 20, 1947. She received her bachelor's degree from the University of California - Davis and her master's in political science at from the University of California - Santa Barbara. She taught at several community colleges, and then worked as an accounting manager and corporate planner while serving on the city council in Union City.

In 1986, Eastin was elected to the California State Assembly. She served until 1995, when she was elected superintendent of public instruction of California. Since leaving this position in 2002, Eastin has been a speaker and board member on issues of education policy, nutrition and electing women to public office.
