Jean M. Schmidt has been a member of the Ohio House of Representatives representing District 65 since January 1, 2021. Previously, Schmidt served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Ohio's 2nd District from August 2005 to January 2013.

Schmidt was born November 29, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She received her Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of Cincinnati in 1974. Prior to her political career, she was employed as a bank branch manager, a fitness instructor and a schoolteacher. She was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1984.

From 1989 to 2000, Schmidt served as a trustee in the Miami Township in Miami, Ohio. From 2000 to 2004, she served as a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives. In August 2005, she won a special election to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of U.S. Representative Rob Portman.
