Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Truss served as the prime minister of the United Kingdom from Sept. 6-Oct. 25, 2022, the shortest-serving prime minister in the United Kingdom's history.

Truss was born on July 26, 1975, in Oxford, England. She studied philosophy, politics and economics at Merton College in Oxford, graduating in 1996. Truss was a member of the Liberal Democrats Party before joining the Conservative Party in 1996. She worked as an accountant for Shell from 1996-2000.

Truss was elected as a councillor in Greenwich in 2006, serving until 2010. She has served as a member of parliament for southwest Norfolk since 2010. She served as parliamentary under-secretary of state for education and childcare from 2012-2014 and secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs from 2014-2016. From 2016-2017, Truss was lord chancellor and secretary of state for justice, the first woman to assume the role of lord chancellor. She was chief secretary to the Treasury from 2017 until her resignation in 2019. She served as international trade secretary and minister for women and equalities from 2019-2021. Truss was appointed as secretary of state for foreign, commonwealth and development affairs from 2021-2022.
