Linda Thomas-Greenfield has served as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations since February 24, 2021.

Thomas-Greenfield received a Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University and a Master of Arts from the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining the State Department, she taught political science at Bucknell University in Pennsylvania.

A career diplomat, Thomas-Greenfield worked at the U.S. Foreign Service from 1982-2017, serving in posts in Switzerland, Pakistan, Kenya, The Gambia, Nigeria, and Jamaica and as the ambassador to Liberia. After retiring from the State Department, Thomas-Greenfield led the Africa Practice at Albright Stonebridge Group, a strategic commercial diplomacy firm, and was the inaugural Distinguished Resident Fellow in African Studies at the Institute for the Study of Diplomacy at Georgetown University.
