Carol Shea-Porter, the first woman elected to Congress from New Hampshire, served as the U.S. representative for New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District from 2007 to 2011, 2013 to 2015 and 2017 to 2019.

Shea-Porter was born December 2, 1952, and grew up in the Seacoast region of New Hampshire. She earned a bachelor's degree in social services and a master's degree in public administration from the University of New Hampshire. Previously, Shea-Porter worked as a social worker, and she directed senior centers in New Orleans and Maryland.
