Lynn Woolsey assumed office in January 1993, representing California's 6th District in the U.S. House of Representatives. She retired in 2013 after finishing her 10th term.

Woolsey was born November 3, 1937, in Seattle, Washington. She attended the University of Washington from 1955 to 1957 and received her Bachelor of Science from the University of San Francisco in 1980. Prior to serving in Congress, Woolsey worked as a human resources manager and personnel service owner, a teacher at Marin Community College in Indian Valley, California, and an instructor at Dominican College of San Rafael in California. She also served as a member of the Petaluma, California city council from 1984 to 1992 and as the vice mayor of Petaluma, California from 1989 to 1992.

While in Congress, Woolsey served on the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Science, Space, and Technology Committee, becoming a senior member on both committees. She also served as a ranking member on the Workforce Protections Subcommittee and on the Early Childhood, Elementary, and Secondary Education Subcommittee.
