Doris Matsui

Doris Matsui assumed office in March 2005, representing California's 5th District in the United States House of Representatives. After redistricting, she was elected to represent the 6th District in 2012, and has won reelection since -- including the 2024 election.

Matsui was born September 25, 1944, in an internment camp in Poston, Arizona, and grew up in Dinuba in California's Central Valley. She received her Bachelor of Arts in psychology at the University of California, Berkley.

Prior to serving in Congress, Matsui volunteered on Clinton's presidential campaign. Later, she served as one of eight members on the president's transitional board and then as deputy assistant to the president in the White House Office of Public Liaison. In January 2005, Matsui's husband, Congressman Bob Matsui, passed away. Matsui won his seat in a special election.
