GILLIBRAND: Everyone said the 9/11 health bill couldn't get done.

JOHN FEAL, 9/11 FIRST RESPONDER: But Senator Gillibrand took on the fight by working with 9/11 responders and their families.

JENNIFER MCNAMARA, WIDOW OF 9/11 FIRST RESPONDER: My husband, John, was a firefighter who dug through the rubble at the World Trade Center.

FEAL: For Kirsten, it was never a Democratic or a Republican issue. For her, it was personal.

MCNAMARA: John had recently died of cancer, and I know that he was sitting on Kirsten's shoulder when she got that bill passed.

GILLIBRAND: It was because of their courage that we passed the bill.

FEAL: When everyone else gave up on us, she never did.
