Biography

Rebecca Otto served as the state auditor of Minnesota from 2007-2019. She ran for governor of Minnesota in the 2018 elections, but suspended her campaign after failing to win the DFL endorsement at the state convention on June 1. 

Otto was born in San Diego, California on July 9, 1963, and she then moved to Marine on Saint Croix, Minnesota. Otto earned her BS from Macalester College and her MEd from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. Before she started her political career, Otto was a science teacher and a business owner. During this time, she was also a member of the Forest Lake School Board. 

Otto’s political career started in 2002 when she was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives from the 52B district, until 2006 when she was elected as state auditor.
