SPANBERGER: I always knew I wanted to join the CIA. My father was a public servant and a federal law enforcement officer, and he's hardworking and principled. I always wanted to be like my dad – always. I served in the CIA for eight years, mostly in counterterrorism. Our goal was to keep this country safe. It wasn't about partisan politics.
