MAN: Why do some people hate Social Security?

NICK BEGICH: It's a Ponzi scheme and it's used to prop the system up.

CATHEY COOLEY: Without Social Security, I would be homeless.

REPORTER: Without Social Security benefits, the elderly poverty rate would be more than four times as high.

MAN: Social Security has eliminated the vast majority of elderly poverty in America. It might be the most effective anti-poverty program in the history of this country.

WOMAN: I believe Social Security should be funded for many generations to come.
