Michelle Steel has served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2021, representing California's 48th congressional district from 2021-2023 and the 45th district since 2023. Steel, Marilyn Strickland of Washington and Young Kim of California are the first Korean American women to serve in the United States Congress.

Steel was born on June 21, 1955, in Seoul, South Korea, and came to the United States as a young adult with her mother and younger sisters. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business from Pepperdine University and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Steel has served on the Orange County Board of Supervisors since January 2015. Previously she served on the California State Board of Equalization from 2007-2015.
