Youth Straw Poll - March 25, 2022

Hello, hello young people – my name is Deidre DeJear, and I’m running as a democrat to be Iowa’s next governor. You all, however, get an opportunity to participate in the Iowa Youth Straw Poll, a fascinating experience, that I’m excited for on your behalf, because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that your voice is critical. Our democracy only works when people like you are invested. Even if you're not 18, to learn about how our democracy works, and to participate and learn about our elected leaders only puts you one step ahead of the game at the point in which you have the opportunity to vote. So I’m asking you for a couple of quick things: I need you to follow me on socials – I’m on IG , I’m on Facebook, I have a few lame TikToks – follow me Deidre DeJear. I also want you to know that not only do I believe that your voice is powerful your voice can make a difference. When I coach basketball for girls East High School back in 2011, we had a 26-0 season, and it wasn't because of the coaches. It was because the girls were invested – and that led to a state championship. I am so proud of you all in advance for even being interested in this. We can see change happen in all of our communities, and we can start with you participating now.
