CAROLINE SWEENEY: When my son Aiden was 22 months old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, a life-threatening disease. My husband and I were completely devastated.

AIDEN SWEENEY: I just remembered having to walk down to the nurse’s office every single day. All of the stuff they were doing was only to keep me alive.

NARRATOR: Caroline and Aiden met with Senator Susan Collins.

CAROLINE SWEENEY: Senator Collins really listened to our story.

AIDEN SWEENEY: We told her what I had been going through and how much of an impact it had on my life.

CAROLINE SWEENEY: Senator Collins looked me in the eye and said I will help you.

NARRATOR: Susan founded the Senate Diabetes Caucus, secured millions in federal funding for diabetes research, and is leading the fight to lower the cost of insulin.

CAROLINE SWEENEY: Senator Collins has been with us every step of the way.

AIDEN SWEENEY: I would not be doing as well as I am without Susan Collins.

CAROLINE SWEENEY: Susan Collins is our hero, she’s our champion, and I’m so proud to call her our senator.

COLLINS: I’m Susan Collins and I’ve approved this message.
