CAROL WATKINS: When my husband and I were first married, we built this home together. My husband was a 100-percent disabled veteran and in our later years we depended on that money from the VA.

ANNOUNCER: But after her husband passed away a mix-up with the veterans administration kept Carol from receiving the widows benefits she so desperately needed.

WATKINS: I was definitely going to be in trouble and lose the house that my husband and I had built together. I reached out to Senator Susan Collins, who immediately looked after me, get ahold the VA and started the process that eventually saved everything for me. She fought for me and she kept fighting, and now I'm going to be fine. We need more people in Washington like Susan because you know that she's there with your best interest at heart.
