Biography

Julia Brownley was elected to U.S. House of Representatives in 2012, representing California's 26th District.

Brownley was born on August 28, 1952. After graduating with a B.A. in political science from George Washington University and an M.B.A. from American University, she worked in marketing before beginning her time in public service. She began her career in public service as a school board member in 1994, where she served three terms.

Brownley was elected to the California state legislature in 2006, where she served as chairwoman of the Assembly Education Committee for four years. As an assemblywoman, she was awarded numerous honors for her leadership in education and the environment.
