Michelle Nunn was the Democratic Party nominee in the race for Georgia's U.S. Senate seat in 2014, to replace retiring Sen. Saxby Chambliss, but lost to David Perdue.

Nunn was born in 1966, in Macon, Georgia. Her father is retired U.S. Senator Sam Nunn. She graduated from the University of Virginia and holds a master's degree in public administration from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

In 1989, Nunn and a group of friends created Hands On Atlanta, and she served as its first executive director. Over the next decade, Nunn grew volunteerism across Georgia and throughout the country through Hands On Network, a national outreach of volunteer-service organizations. In 2007, Hands On Network merged with President George H.W. Bush's Points of Light Foundation. After leading the merger, Nunn became CEO and president of Points of Light, now the largest organization in the country devoted to volunteer service. She served as CEO until 2013, and remains on the board of directors. In 2009, Nunn partnered with Senators Orrin Hatch (R-UT) and Edward Kennedy (D-MA) on the Serve America Act, legislation that provides small competitive grants to leverage and mobilize volunteers.
