Biography
Marilyn Strickland has served as member of the U.S. House of Representatives since Jan. 3, 2021, representing Washington's 10th Congressional District.
Strickland was born on on September 25, 1962, in Seoul, South Korea, the daughter of an American serviceman, and moved to Tacoma, Washington as a child. She earned a B.A. in sociology from the University of Washington and an M.B.A. from Clark-Atlanta University. She has served as the campaign chair of the United Way of Pierce County. She has also served as a trustee of the Tacoma Public Library and Annie Wright Schools, and a member of The Black Collective and the International Women's Forum.
She was mayor of Tacoma from 2010 to 2017. She was on the Tacoma City Council from 2008 to 2009. As of her 2020 primary campaign, she was CEO of the Seattle Metro Chamber of Commerce.
