Biography

Madeleine Dean assumed office as U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 4th Congressional District on Jan. 3, 2019. 

Dean was born on June 6, 1959, in Glenside, Pennsylvania. She graduated magna cum laude from La Salle University and earned her law degree at Widener University. After law school, Dean practiced law with the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers, eventually serving as executive director, before opening a small practice and serving as in-house counsel for her husband's business. She then spent 11 years as an as an assistant professor of English at La Salle University. 

Prior to being elected to Congress, Dean served in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 2012 to 2019. She also served as Abington Township commissioner.
