Lisa Goree

Career:Chairwoman, Shinnecock Indian Nation Council of Trustees, 2024-present Assessor, Town of Southampton, 2013-present Deputy Assessor, Town of Southampton, 2007-2013

Lisa Goree is chair of the Shinnecock Indian Nation Council of Trustees. She is the first woman to lead the Shinnecock Indian Nation since 1792, when New York state established the Shinnecock trusteeship that denied female members of the Nation formal input on governing. Shinnecock women re-gained the right to vote on tribal issues in 1994.

Goree was born in 1963 or 1964 on the Shinnecock Reservation, living there until age 10 when her family moved to a nearby town. She returned in 1990. Goree has served as assessor for the town of Southampton since 2013. She previously served as deputy assessor from 2007-2013. She has also served on the Shinnecock Tribal Council, Election Committee, Enrollment Board, and Shinnecock Museum’s Board of Directors.
