Biography

Jenean Hampton served as Kentucky’s lieutenant governor from 2015-2019, the first African American in Kentucky history to hold statewide office. 

Hampton earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Wayne State University in 1985 and a master's in business administration from the University of Rochester. After graduating from Wayne State University, she served for seven years as a computer systems officer in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of captain. After her service in the Air Force, Hampton worked in the corrugated packaging industry while earning her M.B.A. 

Hampton first ran for office in 2014, when she lost her challenge to state Representative Jody Richards.
