Connie Boesen has served as the mayor of Des Moines, Iowa since 2024. She is the first woman to serve in this role.

Boesen was raised in Iowa and graduated from Des Moines Public Schools. She later attended Des Moines Area Community College and Grandview University to obtain her bachelor’s degree. Prior to entering public service, Boesen worked as a buyer for Younkers from 1969-2003. She also created her own business in 1988 and served as the president of the company.

Boesen became a public servant by serving on the Des Moines School Board, staying in this position for 14 years. She also served as an at-large member of the Des Moines City Council for six years before winning the mayoral race in 2023.
