Cindy Axne assumed office as the U.S. representative for Iowa's 3rd Congressional District on Jan. 3, 2019. Axne and Abby Finkenauer, who also won election to the U.S. House on Nov. 6, 2018, are the first women to serve in the U.S. House from Iowa.

Axne earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism from the University of Iowa and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University. Following her graduation from the University of Iowa, she worked in strategic planning and leadership development for the Tribune Company in Chicago. From 2005 to 2014, Axne worked for several state agencies in Iowa, including the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, Iowa Department of Management and Iowa Department of Natural Resources. Since 2014, she and her husband have been small businesses owner of their design firm.
