Biography

Christy Smith served in the California State Assembly from 2018 to 2020. She ran for the U.S. House to represent California's 27th Congressional District in 2022, losing in the general election. In 2020, Smith ran against Republican Congressmember Mike Garcia and earned 36,000 more votes than any other Democrat in the district's history. 

Smith was born on May 15, 1969, in Wurzburg, Germany. She left Germany with her family at a young age and grew up in Santa Clarita, California. She attended College of the Canyons and graduated with honors from UCLA with a bachelor's degree in political science. Her professional experience includes working as an analyst at the U.S. Department of Education and founding the Valencia Valley Technological Education Foundation. 

Smith was a member of the California State Assembly where she represented District 38. Prior to serving in the state assembly, Smith served two terms as a governing board member of the Newhall School District.
