Cheri Bustos served as U.S. representative for Illinois' 17th Congressional District from 2013 until her retirement from the House in 2023.

Bustos was born in Springfield, Illinois. She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Maryland, College Park, and her master's degree in journalism from University of Illinois at Springfield.

Before being elected to Congress, Bustos worked as a journalist for Quad City Times. From 2007 to 20011 she served as Alderwoman for the East Moline, Illinois City Council. She served as the vice president of public relations and communications at IHS, the nation's fifth largest nonprofit, nondenominational health system. Prior to her work at IHS, Bustos served as the senior director of corporate communications for Trinity Regional Health System in Rock Island, Illinois. She is currently president of the board of directors of the Women's Connection, one of Illinois' largest women's membership organizations.
