Kamala Harris was elected in 2016 and served until 2021. Laphonza Butler was appointed to the Senate in 2023 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Dianne Feinstein and served through 2024.)

Alsobrooks began her career in 1997 as an assistant state attorney for Prince George’s County, before she became the county’s first full-time prosecutor to specifically focus on domestic violence. In 2010, Alsobrooks was elected as Prince George’s County state’s attorney, serving in this position until 2018, when she was elected as Prince George’s County executive.
