Biography

Alyse Galvin assumed office in the Alaska House of Representatives on Jan. 17, 2023. She was a 2018 and 2020 nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives for Alaska, losing to incumbent Don Young both times. Galvin ran for the U.S. House as an Independent with the endorsement of the Alaska Democratic Party. 

Galvin was born and raised in Alaska. She earned a bachelor's degree in political science from University of California, San Diego. After returning to Alaska, Galvin taught school and was a substitute teacher. Since 2014, she had led Great Alaska Schools, a grassroots effort she helped launch. Her husband, Pat, was formerly the state revenue commissioner and the only Democrat to serve in the administration of former Gov. Sarah Palin, a Republican.
