ROS-LEHTINEN: Hi, I'm Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, member of Congress from South Florida, representing you in D.C. I remember coming here to the Freedom Tower when I was just a little girl having just arrived from Cuba, and this is my old stomping grounds in Little Havana. This is where I grew up. When we started in Little Havana, we started to "go west, young families," and we moved to Westchester where I attended West Miami Middle School and Southwest High School where I graduated in 1970. This is really where my love for academics took hold. This is a family tradition, my brother, my father and then me, at Miami D. When I first started here at FIU there were just a few buildings. And here at the University of Miami I earned my doctorate in education. I'm Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, and if you look around you'll see South Florida in everything I do.
