HEGAR: It was my third tour in Afghanistan. I was flying a medevac mission, when I was shot through the windshield and we went down. So I strapped myself to the skids of the helicopter that rescued us and returned fire on the Taliban as we flew to safety. For that, I was awarded the Purple Heart and the Distinguished Flying Cross with Valor. I'm MJ Hegar. And we fought like hell to get everyone home safe that day. And I approve this message because my mission isn't over while Texas families are still in danger.
